Earliest known Lists containing persons who later arrived in New South Wales
On 12 August 1783 fifty six convicts from the Justitia and Censor Hulks at Woolwich were sent aboard HMS Swift for transportation to Nova Scotia America. On 16 August a further 87 convicts were added from Newgate Prison making a total of 143 aboard. On reaching the English Channel the convicts rose against the crew, running the ship ashore in Sussex. Of those who escaped ashore 39 were recaptured and once again sentenced to be transported. Following is a list of these escapees. At least ten of these are known to have been transported later to New South Wales
